Queen of Great Britain
Queen Elizabeth II. ()
Albert, Prince of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, married Victoria, Queen of Great Britain, in 1840. The English monarchy only renounced the title in 1917 as a result of internal political pressure during the First World War and called itself Windsor. Elizabeth II, Queen of Great Britain and great-granddaughter of Albert, would otherwise bear the name Saxe-Coburg-Gotha.
Queen Victoria’s mother was incidentally Victoire of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, from whose lineage the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha emerged in combination with the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg in 1826.
