Sibylla of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha was born at Friedenstein Palace in 1908 and comes from the German aristocratic family of the same name. She was the eldest daughter of Charles Edward, the last reigning Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha.

She married the Swedish Hereditary Prince Adolf of Bernadotte in 1932. Their son, Carl XVI Gustaf, is the head of the Swedish Royal House of Bernadotte and has been the King of Sweden since 1973. The Swedish royal family resides at Drottningholm and Solliden palaces.
