Canopy Walk

Hainich
(approx. 27 km away from Gotha)

The canopy walk, situated on the Thiemsburg, leads visitors to Hainich into an otherwise inaccessible part of the national park, the “primeval forest in the middle of Germany” and provides views over the whole of Hainich and the Thuringian Basin. In the primeval forest’s treetops explorers, the inquisitive, daredevils and pleasure-seekers of all ages can enjoy a very special outing into Hainich national park’s forests, which have been a UNESCO World Nature Heritage Site since 2011.

There is a tree tower with tree house to explore, which towers over the treetops at 44 metres in total and a path that has been winding through the treetops in two loops of 238 and 308 metres long since 14 May 2009. On the way you will encounter bats, woodpeckers and the beech primeval forest’s other inhabitants as well as opportunities for active exercise high up in the treetops.
