Princess Victoria Eugénie of Battenberg was the only daughter of Prince Heinrich Moritz of Battenberg and his consort Princess Beatrice of Great Britain, who was the youngest of British Queen Victoria and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha’s nine children.

Victoria Eugénie married Alfons XIII of Spain in 1906. Their marriage was considered to be very unhappy as he led a dissolute life, among other things. Their son Juan de Borbón y Battenberg is the father of Juan Carlos I and the grandfather of Felipe VI, who has been the reigning King of Spain since 2014.
