Thuringian Forest Line

From Gotha to Thuringian Forest

Have you ever travelled by overland tram? The means of transport which used to be very common has become a rarity today – the last of its kind in Thuringia runs between Gotha and the spa town of Bad Tabarz in the Thuringian Forest. Line 4 runs from Gotha main train station to the city centre stops first and then continues to chug on towards the Thuringian Forest on one track from the depot.
The forest line doesn’t just link Gotha, Waltershausen, Friedrichroda and Bad Tabarz with each other but also stops at popular day trip destinations, like the Reinhardsbrunner ponds or the Marienglashöhle show mine.

Tip!
Historic trams also travel the route on special dates for the really nostalgic. Tickets can be purchased from the Gotha / Gothaer Land tourist information or on the Thuringian Forest Line.
