The Ducal Museum

The Ducal Museum was built at the end of the 19th century to the south of Friedenstein Palace and has shown many genres of extensive art collections since 2013.

The “Thuringian Louvre” presents ceramics and other art treasures from all over the world and all periods as well as Old German and Dutch painting from the unknown master of the famous “Gotha lovers” to the longing look of the romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich. The world’s largest collection of works by the classical French sculptor Jean-Antoine Houdon outside his fatherland has also found a home at the Ducal Museum Gotha.

Special temporary exhibitions successfully round off this experience for art lovers.
